As I rework through the Book of Mormon and do my own personal consumption of the content, do my own research, and search within myself for the answers I keep, I have been creating music, with AI. Not to say I’m just hitting a button and its doing whatever, but I create a blend of concepts, ideas, phrases, verses, ect and work them into a song and use AI to help me work through variations and different ideas pertaining to the content. In someways its like doing deep lore research for something, and using AI to quickly get answers and referential data that would take a significant amount of time in the past. To draw correlations in time, experience, and testimony from around the world with the AI that does the work of an entire research team in a matter of minutes. As a companion to this or any kind of research its incredibly powerful and beneficial.
The technology has made creation in a very consumable and desirable manner significantly easier to create, and I find these days, as I read and research, music pops into my head I want to manifest it into its full form, and now I can very quickly and this is the result of said use.
The first 2 albums go over the 1 Nephi, and 1/2 of 2 Nephi. These go Chapter by Chapter and the Last 4 tracks in the set split up a chapter in 4 parts as there was a lot to include. I went with a power metal theme as it seemed so perfect to tell these stories in with some intensity and internal motion, and also with beauty, as music can do. From here I started working on the Broader project, where I do love the sound, the Fire can burn a little too hot, and I just wanted to not keep clanging my hammer in there for too long. I will of course finish 2 Nephi in that style and maybe more in time, but I am currently captivated by the Current Versions of the stories in different styles.
For these albums, I’ve decided to go book by book for the albums, and not chapter by chapter, as it creates a more creative and variative way of retelling these stories and messages. I hope you all enjoy, and who knows, maybe you’ll learn something new in a story you’ve heard a thousand times a thousand ways. Oh, and although they styles may change, the albums will are written, released, and shown here in the order they are displayed in the Book.
I have been away from my faith for some time and have tried to live life in many other ways. Yet I have found that I am still the same person I have always been—just someone who tried to suppress my beliefs in order to exist among those who have not received the message or done their own studies.
Later in life, I came back to my faith. After seeing so much and knowing and loving so many people, it all means something different now. There is true heartbreak in this world, and feeling alone or forsaken is all too common. Even when you try to return to the fold, you will almost always encounter opposition and those who try to keep you from it. Many people don’t realize they are hurting, and even beyond what they consciously know about themselves, they can’t truly see it.
The big question to ask yourself when opposition comes is: What do I gain by not doing this? And what do the naysayers have to gain from me staying idle? There’s a saying: Misery loves company. We are not perfect beings. Being flawed, learning, showing up for others—both within the faith and outside of it—and truly listening with your heart, doing what is asked of you on a spiritual level… that’s what we should be doing. I learn more every day and constantly look for ways to make tools that help me consume the gospel in many formats—so I can become more familiar with it and hear new insights in old stories.
I’ve always been a tinkerer. I love finding programmatic solutions to problems beyond basic commercial needs, and I love large datasets I can work with. Creating tools for my studies came naturally, given my 20 years of experience in many corners of technology. With the AI tools available today—both online and locally—I can do so much to help me learn and comprehend what I’m reading, while also enjoying the stories in new ways. These aren’t complete rewrites, just slight adjustments to make retellings in audio form easier on the ear. This is not a replacement for the original text—rather, these are study aids for revisiting and re-experiencing the content, derived directly from the texts of the Book of Mormon and, in the coming months, the Bible.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to create tools that help me in my studies and allow me to consume and understand knowledge in as many ways as possible, with as much ease as possible. And I want to share what I’m creating with others who may also find them useful in their own studies.
I have started this journey by playing with GPT 4o, Claude Sonnet, and Google Gemini Pro. My first sets are going to be from Gemini as it really does an amazing job with Large data, and complicated data tasks. It helped me create my PLS Lexicon file for Pronunciations of the correct names in the TTS (Text To Speech) process, as some names when spoken come out incorrectly, like Moroni is most commonly spoken by TTS as “MO ROH NEE” so some guidance is needed. Once I finish the Gemini versions i will move on to 4o/5 and Sonnet and create the base full document of the BOM as well as the Narration of the entire thing, and I playing with the idea of making an AI podcast using NotebookLM for each chapter of the BOM. If you haven’t played with NotebookLM, it’s an amazing way to hear a podcast version of a topic and can really make consuming a topic very easy.
There will of course be some glitches and pronunciation errors in these outputs as I work on them and if you find issues, let me know so I can correct them. I don’t expect I will have the perfect versions right away, and they are things I wish to work on and perfect as much as I can with time and study.
If you do any kind of TTS (Text To Speech) work, it can be very difficult to get the pronunciation of names done correctly, but systems like ElevenLabs allow you to upload a Pronunciation Dictionary. This will allow you to present your text as it, and the system will detect the names when spoken and use the correct pronunciation instead. If you notice any mispronunciations, let me know and ill get them fixed and make a new version. It can just take a little time to get every word correct, and AI can only get you so far.
1 Nephi
These are NotebookLM Audio Overview Podcast Style episodes of each book of the Book of Mormon. Not too shabby so far, but of coarse there may be oddities in there as I have far less control over what this does and says over the other audio outputs. The remarkable thing here, is that NotebookLM can pronounce the names in the Book of Mormon with lite to no error. At the beginning it seems to mispronounce “Moroni” but then gets it right and gets other names that are usually really difficult to understand correct every time. Very interesting. The source for this was the PDF of the BOM from the church website. All i did was create a “Longer” Audio Overview with a prompt stating what I wanted discussed by the podcasters during the episodes. Very simple to use and can restate what you give it into a podcast form and a bunch of over helpful forms.
